Subject: libftdi versus libftd2xx

I'm starting a new project, and debating whether to use libftd2xx (FTDI's
proprietary driver), or libftdi (from Thomas Jarosch).

I'm using 64-bit Linux, Xubuntu 11.10

In the documentation of libftd2xx, I see the following comment:
Other problems will be related to the ftdi_sio driver loading -
1.you must unload this driver (and usbserial) if it is attached to your
device ("rmmod ftdi_sio" and "rmmod usbserial" as root user).

My question:
Does libftdi have the same limitation, that it cannot work when ftdi_sio is
running?

My hardware is a 4 channel FTDI chip, of which I want to use 2 in serial
mode, and 2 in I2C mode.

Thanks,
Prashanth
