i never said it isnt possible.  i did say it's more work and i'm questioning 
whether it's necessary for libftdi to put this work on all distros.

i havent seen points yet that indicate replacing libftdi-0.x with libftdi-1.x 
require changing the API/ABI in a backwards-incompatible way.  do you have 
examples for me ?
