I use CBUS a lot, and even have my own command-line tool for updating
the EEPROM bits for it.  However, note that you need to power cycle
the FT232R after changing the eeprom for it to take effect.

I've found that CBUS output "just works", and I use pins 2 and 3 like
you do.
