ft232r eeprom - re-reading?

After the eeprom is updated, how do you get the ft232r to re-read it
and update its hardware config?  I.e. if you changed CBUS functions,
or pin polarity.  ftdi_usb_reset() doesn't do it, at least not in
1.16.  So far I've had to unplug the device, but I'd rather automate
it.
