Just some idea to troubleshoot this issue.
1) What is the version of libusb-1.0 and libftdi-1.0 are you using?
For libusb-1.0, try to use libusb.git and not the released 1.0.8 version
which has many known problems under Mac OS X (as well as Linux).

2) Try to use d2xx under Mac OS X to see if that helps. The
latest version of d2xx under Linux and Mac OS X are based
on libusb-1.0.
