Sounds reasonable - but with baud rates like 300, about 20ms or so would be
the max break. For a lot of protocols, that should be sufficient but don't
the stop bits at the lower bauds confuse protocols when baud rate is
switched?

The way I've been doing it, is to reduce the baud rate and send a NUL, then
flip the baud rate back up. You have to be careful, if something comes in
during the baud switch you may miss it.
